Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Development, the Donor Advisor manages and implements a comprehensive and integrated fundraising program to develop significant contributed income sources for the Museum expanding and diversifying LACMA’s donor base.  

Responsibilities:

  • Researches, cultivates, and solicits significant donors from a variety of sources

  • Recommends and develops donor cultivation strategies with SVP and colleagues museum-wide

  • Develops marketing material for various fundraising programs

Individual Giving Coordinator (Regular, Full-Time)

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Individual Giving, the Individual Giving Coordinator supports the individual giving team and their programs, focused on LACMA Fund, the museum’s annual fund, as well as patron group activities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Drafts letters and content for donor communications, including solicitations, quarterly and monthly membership newsletters, and other printed donor materials as needed; including coordination of the routing and approval processes
  • Assists with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns
  • Assists with development, data extractions and maintenance of reports from the museum’s database to facilitate data-driven decision making
  • Assists in the coordination of data-based and/or research-based strategic plans for giving programs

Director of Individual Giving (Regular, Full-Time)

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Individual Giving and the Development team, the Director of Individual Giving is responsible for growing and stewarding giving groups with a cumulative fundraising goal of over $3 million. The program includes all areas of individual giving, including the Art of the Middle East Contemporary, Costume Council, Decorative Arts & Design Council, LENS: Photography Council, Modern and Contemporary Art Council; as well as the acquisition groups Art Here & Now: Studio Forum (AHAN) and the Decorative Arts & Design Acquisition Committee (DA2), and Contemporary@LACMA (C@L) and other groups as assigned. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for programming, identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donor groups and programs.
  • Evaluates and oversees the work of the Development Associate, who manages activities and members for LACMA’s art councils.
  • Key liaison for curators connected to each group, and has oversight of revenue and expenditures for the area.

Education Assistant (Temporary, Part-Time)
Education and Public Programs 

Youth & Family Programs make the museum accessible through NexGenLA and programming that gives children, teens, families, and adults the opportunity to make creative connections to works of art. In-person programs include Andell Family Sundays, the Boone Children’s Gallery, art classes, and seasonal art camps. NexGenLA is the museum’s free membership program for children 17 years and younger who live in Los Angeles County.

Reporting to the Director, Youth & Family Programs, the Education Assistant is an entry level position that supports the Education & Public Program Department’s vision that everyone has access to art. Responsibilities include providing outstanding customer service, welcoming intergenerational audiences to the museum, inviting LA County youth to join the museum’s free youth membership program, engaging with program participants of all ages in art making activities and classes, and issuing museum entrance tickets to NexGenLA families. Junior Collections Management Technician (Regular, Full-Time)
Collections Management  

Reporting to the Assistant Collections Manager, the Junior Collections Management Technician performs a wide variety of duties related to the care of the collection, both onsite at LACMA as well as at offsite storage. Duties include artwork housing and movement, collections access, and storeroom maintenance. This is an entry-level position within the field of collections management.

  • Assists with day-to-day operations of collection storage spaces.

Manager, NexGenLA (Regular, Full-Time)
Education & Public Programs 

Reporting to the Director of Youth & Family Programs, the Manager, NexGenLA oversees LACMA’s Youth Membership Program, NexGenLA, and all its associated youth and family programming on LACMA campuses and throughout Los Angeles County with partner sites, including multiple outreach events throughout the year. The Manager supervises the over 250,000 strong membership, including recruitment and communication, as well as programming for youth & family members. The Manager collaborates with Teaching Artists on the development and implementation of in-person and digital object-based, interactive lessons for a diverse group of family and teen community participants, oversees the Boone Gallery in the coming Keck Education Center, and TeenHubLA. The Manager will be responsible for overseeing two full-time staff members, approximately 25 Education Assistants and Leads, a $350K budget, as well as all logistics of the programs.  
 

As LACMA opens a new building, growing the NexGenLA Youth Membership is a major strategic initiative involving creating several new partnerships and collaborative arts-integration projects with parks, libraries, and other community organizations across Los Angeles County. The Manager will help build a strategic plan for the growth of the program and build new community partnerships. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Director of Youth & Family Programs in developing high quality programming and curricular materials for partner community sites, professional development for part-time Teaching Artists, and professional development for partner librarians and other community partner organizations.
  • With Youth & Family team, implements professional development for part-time Teaching Artists and staff at community partner organizations.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Events, the Manager, Events leads small-to-mid-level Development Department events from ideation through execution, collaborating closely with Event Leadership on strategic initiatives. Facility Engineering 

Reporting to the Associate VP, Facilities & Sustainability the Director, Building Maintenance & Engineering provides strategic and operational leadership regarding all activities related to building system operations, maintenance, and engineering. The Director, Building Maintenance & Engineering develops and implements the maintenance and operations strategy for the existing LACMA campus and future assets. Assist the Associate VP of Facilities to develop and review the technical specifications and requirements for existing and future buildings. The Director, Building Maintenance & Engineering supervises the day-to-day building maintenance operations and provides guidance to contractors and Engineering staff to achieve the departmental goals and meet or exceed industry standards. Plans and manages the annual budget allocated for Engineering, Building Maintenance, and Energy.  

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical expertise and operational assistance in the planning, development, pre-construction, construction, and commissioning phases of LACMA construction projects and exhibitions. 

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the departmental goals, plans and strategies.

Director of Academic Programs and Partnerships (Regular, Full-Time)
Education & Public Programs 

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, School and Family Programs. The Director will connect with academic institutions broadly, two-year community and vocational colleges as well as baccalaureate and graduate degree granting programs, and develop a suite of offerings that include convenings, symposia, publications, and professional development for students, artists and academics. They will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, designing shared outcomes that situate formal learning and scholarship within higher education alongside lived experience. A central part of their responsibilities will be overseeing the Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship (MUCF), the LACMA-ASU Master’s Fellowship in Art History, and other scholarly exchanges, including the direct oversight of the cohorts of MUCF fellows and LACMA-ASU fellows. This position is responsible for creating and overseeing initiatives to address the needs of college and graduate students, scholars, artists, and other academic stakeholders. The Director provides leadership in best practices in museum education, overseeing both in-person and digital program development, implementation and evaluation, and revising and updating Academic Programs. The Director builds and maintains a broad range of community relationships across LA County and Southern California, and is knowledgeable about the LA art education ecosystem. A major focus of the position is the nurturing and tracking of program participants to diversify the field of museums. They stay current on issues affecting college students, faculty, and new museum professionals, and provide high level strategic approaches to programming, reaffirming LACMA’s role as an innovative and responsive resource for these constituencies. This position is funded for 4 years and projected to end on April 1, 2029.

Wallis Annenberg Curatorial Fellowship (Regular, Full-Time)
Latin American Art

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) announces a search for candidates for the Wallis Annenberg Curatorial Fellowship. This two-year fellowship in the museum’s Latin American Art department will provide general curatorial training, support scholarly research on the permanent collection, and engage the Fellow in the organization of an international traveling exhibition on the connection of Asia and Latin America in the early modern period. 

Reporting to the Curator and Department Head of Latin American Art, the Wallis Annenberg Curatorial Fellow will have particular areas of focus in Spanish American/viceregal art and early modern art (with knowledge of Asian art and assets but not required). Striving to combine the strengths of academic art history and the art museum, this Fellowship is designed to attract exceptional emerging scholars to the curatorial field. Associate Mountmaker (Regular, Part-Time)
Conservation Center  

Reporting to the Mountmaking Manager of the Conservation center, the Associate Mountmaker is responsible for fabricating and installing the structures that safely support collections of artworks and artifacts while they are on exhibit. This is a hands-on opportunity with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. LACMA hosts numerous exhibitions, installations, and loans per year from its encyclopedic collection, and is dedicated to the acquisition, conservation, display, and interpretation of these objects.

Responsibilities:

  • Proficiency in metal fabrication using the following equipment: TIG welder, drill press, milling machine, grinders, oxy-acetylene torch, and bandsaw.
  • Must possess accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of proper art handling protocols.
  • Knowledge of Conservation practices and standards.
  • Must be able to organize time and meet deadlines.
  • Will be required to lift heavy objects at times.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Gift Processing & Data, the Database Specialist ensures data integrity in LACMA’s constituent and donor database (Tessitura) and mailing lists. Tasks include data cleanup, tessitura lists building and front-end extractions. The Database Specialist will join a team that collaborates across departments advancing LACMA’s fundraising efforts, donor and member programs, and public communications.   • In collaboration with the Deputy Director, establishes the project’s budgetary scope. Coordinates preparation and scheduling of Exhibition Review Committee Meetings, and leads review. Collaborates with Senior Financial Analyst and coordination team to finalize exhibition budget, monitor actuals versus budget, and report on final project costs.
  • Oversees the development of exhibition tours, developing solicitation materials, identifying potential tour venues, establishing terms, and managing shared cost tracking and reconciliation.
  • Overseas the development of all necessary agreements including professional service agreements, exhibition agreements, and artist agreements.
  • Leads planning for exhibition program annual operating budget. Collaborates with Deputy Director and Senior Financial Analyst to ensure that program and project scopes meet divisional targets.
  • Liaises with key external stakeholders to support the museum’s many pioneering initiatives.

Research Fellow (Regular, Full-Time)
Conservation Center

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is offering a two-year research fellowship in the Conservation Research laboratory. This position is part of the 'Carbon Reduction for Art in Transit (CRAIT)' project, funded by IMLS, and is projected to end on 8/31/2027 (At-Will employment applies). Reporting to the Head Scientist, the Research Fellow will contribute essential scientific expertise to the project, which focuses on researching and testing sustainable alternatives to traditional art shipping materials. The goal is to identify and implement eco-friendly packaging solutions that reduce reliance on non-recyclable materials and lower the carbon footprint of art crates.

CRAIT is an expansion of a previous pilot program, conducted at LACMA, where several crates were tested using different packing systems. The crates were tested with different shock and vibration parameters to evaluate the mitigation of the materials used and carbon footprints was also calculated.

This research fellowship opportunity provides a unique chance to work in a highly collaborative role with a wide reach across the organization, touching on program areas as well as research and collection care. The fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with LACMA’s team and the partners in the CRAIT project to contribute to a groundbreaking project that is addressing pressing challenges in the cultural heritage field.

This Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship in the Conservation Science Department will support analytical needs within the department and learn the role of a scientist within cultural heritage institutions. In addition to various forms of content creation, the intern will gain experience in editorial tasks relevant to the daily running of the museum’s communications department, and collaborate with multiple departments at the museum including editorial, publications, graphic design, rights and reproductions, and curatorial teams.

Getty Marrow Registration and Collections Internship (Temporary, Full-Time)

This Getty Marrow internship in the Registration and Collections department will receive a thorough introduction to LACMA, its registration processes for managing the permanent collection, and the museum’s acquisition program. Specifically, the Getty Marrow Registration and Collections Intern will assist with updating The Museum System (TMS) database for our collection. In addition to analyzing a wide range of digital materials, including correspondence, photographs, and provenance information, the Getty Marrow Intern will have opportunities to assist the Incoming Loans and Permanent Collection Registrars in carrying out their key responsibilities, such as processing art acquisitions, researching inquiries about permanent collection artworks, documenting complex art installations and organizing collection accession files.

Volunteering is a unique form of philanthropy: a gift of unrestricted time and expertise to the museum. Volunteering provides a means for members to bond over shared artistic passions, and participate in group tours, lectures, receptions and travel. There are a number of ways to give of your time to help LACMA. 

Museum Service Council

The Museum Service Council provides support to museum administrative staff, curators, and educational and family programs. Our volunteers work in the libraries, the Welcome Center, and the Boone Children's Gallery, help staff Family Day activities, act as hosts for special events, and assist in the museum stores. As a benefit, council members receive special invitations to private exhibition tours, activities and lectures with eminent curators. 

The volunteer selection and training process occurs as needed, usually once per year. Stay tuned to this page for updates.

Docent Council

Members of the Docent Council engage with visitors of all ages through guided tours and casual dialogue to make works of art accessible for all. We are committed to inclusivity, access, and equity, and we believe that the Docent Council should represent the diversity of Los Angeles.

An art background is not required in order to be a docent. Prospective docents should have an interest in learning about art, working with audiences of all ages and backgrounds, and facilitating positive museum experiences. In addition to working with visitors, docents enjoy an extensive program of continuing education provided by staff members and local experts. Members of the Docent Council perform a unique form of philanthropy by donating their time in a way that supports LACMA and the visitors it serves.
