Ain’t I An American, directed by Rodney Barnette

This work features the artist’s father, Rodney Barnette, a U.S. Army veteran and former Black Panther Party member. In 2019, Mr. Barnette made a film titled Ain’t I An American as part of LACMA’s Veterans Make Movies program. Watch his film, in which he depicts the challenges of returning home from the war in Vietnam, his time in the Black Panther Party, and the ongoing surveillance and retaliation by federal and local law enforcement Barnette and his family faced.
