Untitled (Selfie), 2020

Kruger initially designed this piece as a cover for the May 1992 edition of Esquire that pictured a close-up of radio personality Howard Stern. Playing off the public’s desire for selfies, this work invites visitors to pose before the wall of their choosing and take a picture of themselves. Meanwhile, a camera transmits an image of that activity to screens in other parts of the museum, including one at the exit of this exhibition and one at LACMA’s Stark Bar.
