Victoria Fu investigates the disparity between the digital and physical worlds by combining analog images of her own making with digital images she acquires from stock photography sites. Her installation work (__) features stock-video snippets intercut with footage of dancers whose choreographed movements are inspired by the finger motions that accompany screen use: “the swipe,” “the pinch,” and “the double-touch/click.” By dramatizing a mechanical takeover of the human body, Fu proposes that the time we spend within digital architecture affects our physical movements, our behavior, and ultimately our brains.
