The De Stijl movement greatly influenced Dutch composer Jakob van Domselaer who modeled his Proeven van Stijlkunst ("Experiments in Artistic Style") after his friend Piet Mondrian’s paintings. The music, like their visual muse, sought to balance opposing elements in vertical and horizontal harmonic form.
