Make art with us! These exhibition-based workshops encourage creative inspiration for different activities, so make sure to check out the corresponding galleries. No prior art-making experience is necessary; our friendly staff will happily work with you on your creation. All ages are welcome!
These workshops take place on Fridays and Saturdays, February 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28.
This February, in honor of Black History Month, we are highlighting Imagining Black Diasporas: 21st-Century Art and Poetics. This exhibition explores how Black artists across the globe create powerful aesthetic connections. While these artists are united through legacies shaped by slavery, colonization, and imperialism, their experiences and expressions are far from monolithic. The exhibition delves deeper into these nuanced themes across the sections Speech/Silence, Movement/Transformation, Imagination, and Representation.
As you explore the exhibition, we invite you to consider these questions: how does history influence art? What cultural significance do materials hold? What conversations do you want your own art to have? Perhaps you will like to highlight one of the artists featured in the exhibition. Join us as we explore the intersections of art and history, culminating with a piece of art that highlights Black artists beyond Black History Month. These workshops are taught by teaching artist Bianca Argueta.
