Artist Yucef Merhi created Quetzalcoatl 2.0.1.2. in response to The Children of the Plumed Serpent: the Legacy of Quetzalcoatl on view at LACMA through July 1, 2012. (Note: To experience the project, please use a supported browser including Firefox, Safari or Chrome - the project does not work in Internet Explorer - and be sure to turn on your speakers as it includes a significant sound element.)

Merhi's project, which he calls a "non-linear poetic narrative", aims to reveal the voice of Quetzalcoatl in the technological reality of 2012 A.D. while depicting some similarities between classic Mesoamerica and today’s cultural, technological, aesthetic, linguistic, political, and economical dynamics. Merhi says about the project:

"I wanted to translate verbally and visually the ancient experience of a ubiquitous but discernible "platform" known by the Aztecs as Quetzalcoatl. Historical and cultural symbols are mixed with contemporary signs and elements that are being generated on real time: changing tweets, instant news, stock market quotes, and so on. I think this aspect of the work engages people to perceive the past and the present as a unified construction." More artist comments
