A Professional Development Program for K–12 Teachers

A professional development program providing K–12 teachers with opportunities to look, learn, create, and interact.

Evenings for Educators provides K–12 teachers the opportunity to learn from LACMA's special exhibitions and permanent collection. Each program presents strategies to incorporate the visual arts into the classroom with activities that explore the artistic process, approach works of art as primary sources, and emphasize the parallels between the visual arts, language arts, and other content areas.

Educators attend lectures by a museum curator or scholar as well as participate in gallery tours and discussions, artist-led workshops, and film screenings. Teachers also receive curriculum materials containing a thematic essay, color transparencies, image descriptions, lesson plans, and related resources. All programs are interdisciplinary and are developed to meet the California state content standards.

Sessions occur on Tuesday evenings during the school year from 4:30 to 8:30 pm. Registration is at LACMA East. Other activities take place in galleries and workshop areas throughout the LACMA campus. Refreshments are provided for participants. Preregistration is not required.

Funding for Evenings for Educators is provided by the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Foundation, Joseph Drown Foundation, and the Kenneth T. and Eileen L. Norris Foundation.
