About Young Directors Night
Young Directors Night highlights the emerging talent of Los Angeles’s film community. A celebration of film and the art of cinema, the showcase features eight to ten short films screened in the unique setting of an art museum. The event is not only designed for film exhibition but also is meant to create an educational experience highlighting the intricacies and complexities of the film-making process. A host panel of industry luminaries is assembled to engage the directors after the screenings in a discussion on what goes into making the films.
The exhibition doubles as a competition with the host panel along with the audience voting on best in show. The winner, announced at a reception following the screening, takes home the Art of Film Award and is sent to a prominent film festival to gain further knowledge about their medium.
Muse Costume Ball

Taking its inspiration from Heroes and Villains: The Battle for Good in India's Comics, Muse once again celebrated Halloween in style at the Costume Ball. The sell-out crowd experienced the comic book stylings of Gotham Chopra, Ghostbusters covers from Voxhaul Broadcast, plus beats from Kim Anh and Museum of Traffic. MoT also collaborated with The Engine for projections on the plaza throughout the night while Mindshare Labs and Glass Garage Gallery handled the installation in the gallery, turning the Art of the Americas Building into a surreal take on a haunted house.
As for the costumes, guests once again came out in full force to create a dazzling scene. Taking home the prize for Best Hero was The Ravens while a dead-on Ursula snagged Best Villain and an uncanny Edgar Allen Poe garnered Most Creative. Check out more incredible costumes in LAist's coverage of the event here and on the LACMA Flickr page. Keep an eye out as many more photos will be published to the Flickr page soon.
Special thanks to everyone who came and to our sponsors: Los Angeles magazine, Honest Tea, Dos Equis, Malibu Family Wines, Millennium Biltmore Hotel Downtown, Border Grill/Ciudad, Machine Project, and Firm Body Evolution.
