Council Assistant—Prints and Drawings Council
Council Activities Department (RPT)

Reporting to the Director of Council Activities and working closely with the Department Head of Prints & Drawings, the Council Assistant provides part-time support to the Prints & Drawings Council (PDC). Some duties include: planning and coordinating numerous council events and activities throughout the year; compiling and monitoring budgets; managing membership dues and records; and assisting with the biannual newsletter.

Council Assistant also manages the PDC’s Commissioned Print program, which involves supporting the publishing of new artwork as well as maintaining and promoting the existing inventory; cooperates with the Contemporary Art Department in administering the new Acquisitions Committee for Contemporary Works on Paper; helps coordinate the LA Art Show opening gala in conjunction with the Art Museum Council; provides clerical support to the council; coordinates office functions, phones, mail documentation and basic general office duties; and maintains updates and status of current projects, as required.  

The qualified candidate will have a bachelor's degree in art history or a related field, and one to two years of administrative experience with an emphasis on event planning, budgeting, fundraising, and organizing printed materials or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.  

The ideal candidate will also have strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask to meet established deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, with a strong ability to work with all levels of an organization as well as various council members. A strong working knowledge of MS Office including mail merge processing is required.

Assistant/Associate Curator
Prints & Drawings Department (RFT)

The Department of Prints and Drawings of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as Assistant or Associate Curator with an expertise in pre-nineteenth century works on paper, specifically Italian and/or Northern European Old Master prints and drawings. The LACMA collection consists of approximately 30,000 prints and drawings from the fifteenth century to the present, and focuses on the work of western European and American artists. Together with the Curator/Head and the Associate Curator, the Asst/Assoc. Curator will have responsibility for the overall care of the collection, the rotation of in-house exhibitions in galleries dedicated to the display of works of art on paper, and the planning and implementation of special exhibitions. Additional duties include: research of new acquisitions; donor relations and fundraising; assistance with planning and development of a new viewing room and storage facility for prints and drawings.

The qualified candidate will have a Master’s degree (Ph.D. strongly preferred) and at least 2–3 years of curatorial experience in the field of prints and drawings. Knowledge of Italian and/or German languages is preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong record of research and scholarship, experience with loan exhibitions, and a strong background in collections management. Other necessary qualities include the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, demonstrated ability to write for a general and a scholarly audience, an aptitude for connoisseurship, and the desire to contribute to the intellectual life of the museum.

Digital Archive Manager
Photographic Services Department (TFT)

LACMA is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Digital Archive Manager position on a full-time, temporary basis with an assignment end date of 02/14/2010.

Reporting to the Supervising Photographer of the Photographic Services/Imaging department, the Digital Archive Manager maintains and manages image servers and various databases in both a Mac and Windows environment, and provides technical support and expertise as needed.

Some duties include: edit digital files (i.e. color correct/balance, mask, clean, crop); convert analog assets to digital media using various scanning devices; manage heavy workflow of images; create derivative files for multiple use and link files to their data records; import data from separate data systems and export images for use in outside databases; supervise employees responsible for editing, scanning and creation of derivative files; generate system reports; improve functionality and design of online database as needed.

The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in art history or graphic design and two to four years of experience in managing a digital image database and performing high-end image editing. Expert knowledge of Photoshop and Bridge is required, as well as proficiency with Lightroom, Excel, a museum CMS system (preferably Multi-Mimsy) and digital asset management software. The ability to work as part of a team, troubleshoot, and meet projected goals and deadlines is essential, and an eye for color correction and matching is a necessity. A background in photography is preferred.

Associate Vice President of Capital Campaign
Development Department (RFT)

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Associate Vice President will serve as campaign manager for LACMA's Transformation Capital Campaign with a primary focus on developing strategies and improving tactics for donor solicitations, stewardship, and cultivation. This position works directly with the Vice President of Development, executive committee and board members to guide the solicitation of gifts for the capital campaign.

Some duties include: monitor and organize all aspects of the capital and endowment campaign; develop strategies for prospect solicitations; create proposals and work with solicitors to ensure effective cultivation and solicitation of six and seven-figure gifts; develop and track the campaign budget and revenue projections, and manage required expenditures within approved budget; oversee implementation of donor recognition efforts for both campaign and annual support.

The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university and eight to ten years of successful fundraising experience. The successful candidate will have expertise and involvement in fundraising efforts for six and seven-figure gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Capital and endowment campaign experience is required.
