Andrew W. Mellon Conservation Fellowship
Objects Conservation (RFT)
The Conservation Center is seeking applications for an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in objects conservation. The fellowship is a full-time position for the duration of one year, and includes a stipend of $32,000 per year plus benefits. A $2,000 travel allowance for study/research will be allocated at the discretion of the section head and the Director of Conservation.
The fellowship will focus on the study, examination, and treatment of works of art in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Successful candidates will gain considerable experience treating works of art in well-equipped, production-oriented conservation laboratories. Conservation involvement in permanent collection exhibitions and special exhibitions will enhance training opportunities. Collaborative projects with the Center's Research Laboratory are possible. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to participate in informal lectures, symposia, and workshops and to visit and collaborate with nearby cultural institutions. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2010. Successful candidates will be notified by April 1, 2010.
Fellowship positions will be available beginning July 2010.
Eligibility
Candidates will be considered who have graduated from a recognized conservation training program, with the appropriate specializations, or who have similar training or experience. For the Conservation Research section, a Master's degree in chemistry or materials science or equivalent training and experience is required.

Foundation & Government Grants Manager
Development Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Director of Government and Foundation Relations, the Grants Manager works collaboratively with museum staff, trustees, and a volunteer committee to maximize grant revenue by producing high quality, often complex proposals and grant applications to support museum programs. The Grants Manager is responsible for tracking reporting deadlines and managing the submission of reports in a timely manner, identifying new funding sources, and proactively managing the cultivation and stewardship of institutional funders. Some travel and evening and weekend work is required.
Some duties include: writing proposals and government grant applications; maintaining portfolio of prospects and donors; directing and coordinating the evaluation and monitoring of grant-funded programs; tracking deadlines and overseeing submission of timely interim and final reports; monitor funding opportunities.
The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university and five or more years of successful fundraising and grants management experience. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to build rapport and work diplomatically and effectively with the public, as well as represent executives in a professional manner both inside and outside of the organization. The successful candidate will be able to effectively provide work direction and delegate tasks appropriately to other staff members.

Digital Archive Manager
Photographic Services Department (RFT)
LACMA is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Digital Archive Manager position on a full-time, regular basis.
Reporting to the Supervising Photographer of the Photographic Services/Imaging department, the Digital Archive Manager organizes and manages assets on multiple image servers and various databases in both a Mac and Windows environment, and provides technical support and expertise as needed.
Some duties include: editing digital files (i.e. color correct/balance, mask, clean, crop); convert analog assets to digital media using various scanning devices; manage heavy workflow of images; create derivative files for multiple use and link files to their data records; import data from separate data systems and export images for use in outside databases; supervise employees responsible for editing, scanning and creation of derivative files; generate system reports; improve functionality and design of online database as needed.
The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in art history or graphic design and two to four years of experience in managing a digital image archive and performing high-end image editing. Expert knowledge of Photoshop and Bridge is required, as well as proficiency with Lightroom, Excel, XML, FTP, a museum CMS system (preferably Multi-Mimsy) and digital asset management software. The ability to work as part of a team, troubleshoot, and meet projected goals and deadlines is essential, and an eye for color correction and matching is a necessity. A background in photography is preferred.
