The Collections Management and Information department (CMI) is currently accepting applications for volunteer student interns. This internship is offered to 3-4 students on an ongoing basis, following the university quarter-system.
Description
With one of the largest online catalogues of any art museum in the U.S., LACMA is a leader in museum web programming. The CMI Internship provides students with an overview of the many steps and issues involved in web publishing. Students will participate in digitizing one-of-a-kind museum artifacts, including researching, preparing and editing collection information for release on the website. Through hands-on projects and discussion in internal meetings, students will become familiar with the following topics: website design and organization, technical protocols, copyright requirements, tracking public use, audience expectations and evaluation, collaborations with teachers, and grant funding. Students will deal with new web content relating to the museum's collections, exhibitions and institutional archives.
Eligibility Requirements
The volunteer intern must be able to complete 240 hours over a twelve-week period, be computer literate, and have senior or graduate-level status. This non-compensatory internship is appropriate to students from the following majors: museum studies, library science, information management, or art history.
Preference will be given to those applicants with a serious interest in pursuing a museum career or special computer skills. Academic credit can be arranged. Hours are flexible between 8 am and 6 pm Monday through Friday.

Grantwriting Department
The Government and Foundation Relations Department is seeking an undergraduate or graduate intern who is actively enrolled in an art history, museum studies, English, liberal arts, or other applicable program for the Fall 2008 semester.
Description
The desired intern will be a proficient writer, have strong analytical skills, and be able to work up to 20 hours per week for college credit. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer, have strong analytical skills, and be proficient with Internet, Excel, and MS Word. He/she must be able to type 50 words per minute and have good organizational skills.
This is a non-paid internship, but school credits will be awarded. Intern duties primarily entail prospect research to identify new funding opportunities and preparing written documents, including letters of inquiry, status reports, grant proposals, and acknowledgment letters. Other responsibilities include filing and fulfilling donor stewardship, such as mailing VIP passes and exhibition catalogues. There may also be the opportunity to assist with special events for the Development Department, such as opening night receptions and private viewings of exhibitions.

Internship Description
The intern will work closely with all members of the membership department to develop and execute the membership marketing plan. The intern will have the opportunity to be exposed to all areas of museum membership, including retaining current members, acquiring new members, providing customer service and benefits to current members.
Main Responsibilities

Assist with event planning, including Muse events and new member parties

Work on developing creative and marketing plan for Muse events.

Draft letters for monthly membership renewals.

Work with membership manager on copy for all member publications.

Update member pages on the website.

Assist with on-site membership promotions and researching various premium ideas.

Coordinate visitor research, conduct surveys on-site, and enter data.

Assist with group sales marketing.

The Registrar's Office will be accepting applications for two student interns on an ongoing basis, following the university semester system.
Description
The Registrar's Office creates and maintains the official records for all of the objects in the LACMA collections or on loan to the museum. The internship program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to work on projects related to documenting the permanent collection, inventorying and cataloguing objects, and assisting with incoming and outgoing loans for acquisition and exhibition programs. The interns will be exposed to all phases of registration and receive additional assignments focusing on archiving and museum ethics.
Eligibility Requirements
The volunteer intern must be able to complete 240 hours within a fourteen-week period, be computer literate, and have junior, senior or graduate-level status. This non-compensatory internship is appropriate for students from the following majors: museum studies, art history, art, anthropology, archaeology, history, and library science. Academic credit can be arranged. Hours are flexible between 8 am and 6 pm Monday through Friday.
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of basic museum collections management practices, collections care, documentation, information systems, and have the ability to work independently. Preference will be given to students with a serious interest in pursuing a museum career.

Development Department
The Development Department is currently seeking an undergraduate or graduate intern who is presently enrolled in an Art History, Museum Studies, Liberal Arts, Business Administration or other applicable course of study.
Description
The internship will provide hands-on experience in the busy development office of a leading Los Angeles arts institution. The intern will work closely with the Corporate Development team supporting active donor solicitation and cultivation activities. Responsibilities include prospect research, preparing solicitation packages, gift processing and filing, membership/sponsorship fulfillment, and assisting with special donor requests. There may also be opportunities to assist with organizing and staffing special events, such as opening night receptions and exhibition tours.
The ideal candidate will have strong writing and organizational skills and an attention to detail, and be highly motivated. Intern must be proficient with Internet, Excel, MS Word, and be able to type 50 words per minute. Preference will be given to those applicants with a serious interest in pursuing a museum and/or development career. This is a non-paid internship, but school credits will be awarded. Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible from 9am–6pm.

President's Circle and Council Activities Internship

Development Department
The Development Department is seeking an undergraduate or graduate intern who is actively enrolled in an art history, history, museum studies, English, liberal arts, or other applicable program for Fall 2008.
Hours

Responsibilities
This is a non-paid internship, but school credits will be awarded. Intern will work closely with the President’s Circle, a major gifts program that raises unrestricted revenue for art acquisitions, educational programming, and museum operations; and also with Council Activities. Duties primarily entail ongoing research projects, such as direct mail and corporate prospecting; researching and updating donor information via the Internet; and cross-checking mailing addresses in Enterprise, the museum’s fundraising database. Other responsibilities include filing, fulfilling donor stewardship internal gift processing, collaborating media for major proposals, and fulfilling upper-level membership benefits such as mailing VIP passes, exhibition catalogues, and other special donor requests. There may also be the opportunity to assist with special events for the Development Department, such as opening-night receptions and private viewings of exhibitions.

There are one to three internship opportunities available in the Marketing and Communications department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Internship Description
The interns will work closely with all members of the marketing staff to develop and execute marketing strategy. Interns have the opportunity to be exposed to all areas of museum marketing, including print, outdoor, and radio advertising, direct email campaigns, street marketing, event planning, research, and the creative process.

Internship Description
Interns work closely with all members of the communications staff to develop and execute the museum’s press strategy. Interns have the opportunity to be exposed to all areas of the museum’s press office, including communications with media, development of press materials, press coverage tracking, event planning, and research.
Main Responsibilities
- Handle requests from all types of media, including print, online, and broadcast
- Assist with development and assembly of press kits related to museum’s exhibitions, public programs, special events, and announcements
- Track museum’s press coverage with clippings and coverage reports
- Assist with news, editorial, and photography shoots

Costume and Textiles Internships

Costume and Textiles Department
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art invites internship applications for the Department of Costume and Textiles for the fall 2008 semester. Selected interns will assist the curatorial staff with handling, documenting, and researching objects while gaining greater knowledge and hands-on experience within a renowned encyclopedic collection of costume and textiles. The intern must commit to the completion of 240 hours of work throughout the semester for academic credit towards a bachelor's or master’s degree in art history, museum studies, or related field.
Qualifications
Student currently enrolled in a bachelor or master’s level art history, museum studies, or related field program for an internship during the fall/winter 2008 semester. An academic concentration in costume and textiles is preferable.
The ideal candidate is organized and self-motivated with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work as a team player. This candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong working knowledge of MS Office. The ideal candidate must also be a strong researcher. Duties include organizing and documenting objects through the cataloging process, managing digital images for documentation, researching objects, handling objects and rare-books materials, preparing archival storage units, and other such assistance to the curatorial staff.
