Shahnameh: The Epic of the Persian Kings
Tuesday, April 2, 2013 | 7 pm
Graphic artist and filmmaker Hamid Rahmanian discusses the new illustrated Shahnameh, an epic work of sixty thousand verses composed by Persian poet Ferdowsi of Tous more than a thousand years ago. He will explain how each of the five hundred–plus pages of illustrations created a new work of art and an exquisite collage of traditional forms from elements culled from thousands of illuminated manuscripts, lithographs, and miniatures from Iran, Mughal India, and the Ottoman Empire dating from the fourteenth to the nineteenth centuries.
