Perhaps the least-known of American silent comedy's trinity that includes Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd was far more popular then either of his contemporaries when measured by domestic box-office returns. After viewing his riotous 1923 smashSafety Last! in a gleaming new DCP transfer, you’ll see why. Lloyd stars as a hayseed in need of funds to secure the love of his belle back home. Once in the big city—Los Angeles, in all of its raw 1920s glory—he winds up behind the counter of a department store, where mishaps abound. Climaxing with one of cinema’s most timeless (and still astoundingly suspenseful) death-defying stunts as Lloyd hangs from the side of a downtown skyscraper, Safety Last!  Is a well-oiled thrill ride that still entertains ninety-years after it was first released.
