The Maya Calendar and the True Meaning of 2012

Sunday, December 2, 2012 | 1 pm

It seems the whole world is talking about the Maya calendar and Maya predictions for 2012. What is the truth?

Dr. Bruce Love has been researching and publishing about Maya culture for some thirty-five years. On December 2, he brings his expertise to the topic of Maya predictions and the Maya calendar. The Maya and their Mesoamerican neighbors had a number of calendar systems, some of which have been lost over time, while others remain vibrant among today’s indigenous groups. Examples are shown from Maya monuments from the Classic period, the seventeenth-century Books of Chilam Balam, and today’s Highland Maya of Guatemala. There will be audience participation in learning how to read a Maya Long Count written in hieroglyphs. By the end of the lecture we will be closer to separating the truth from the fiction about December 21, 2012.
