Art + Architecture Focus on Malibu Home Tour

Saturday, October 6, 2012 | 12 pm

LACMA’s Art Museum Council will present its inaugural Art + Architecture Focus Tour on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Since 1956, the Art Museum Council’s annual Art + Architecture Tour has inspired and entertained guests with behind-the-scenes tours of architecturally significant homes featuring important art collections. The new Focus Tour will venture into less accessible locations, beginning with two spectacular Malibu properties.

The day begins at Pepperdine University’s Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, where guests will enjoy a private talk on the current Pop Culture exhibition before boarding shuttles to two homes. The tour opens with a home that has a magnificent oceanfront setting on Carbon Beach and an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art by such noted artists as Ed Ruscha, Donald Sultan, and Jean Metzinger. Guests will then be whisked to the dramatic 747 Wing House, situated on a fifty-five-acre site in the hills of Malibu with ocean and mountain views. This striking, multilevel residence was constructed with the recycled parts of a decommissioned Boeing 747-200 aircraft.

Guests are invited to enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres as Wing House architect David Hertz and the property’s owner share their stories of the home’s genesis and construction.

Offsite Tour | Individual tickets: $350 | Space is limited | For tickets and more information: amc@lacma.org or 323 857-6501.
