Studio Session: Introduction to Encaustic Painting
Five Sundays: January 26, February 2, 9, 16, and 23 | 1–4 pm
Learn the basics of the ancient art of encaustic painting. Encaustic painting uses a wax-based paint composed of beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. While this medium traces its origins to antiquity, its versatility has stood the test of time, and artists continue to use it to create works. The class reviews basic setup, color mixing, fusing, layering, and texture. Artist Pamela Smith-Hudson leads participants to experiment with stencils, collage, image transfers, and even printmaking with encaustics.
