Grupo Falso Balano

Saturday, June 2, 2012 | 5 pm

San Francisco–based Grupo Falso Baiano presents a program of traditional and modern Brazilian choro music followed by a pulse-pounding set of "roots samba"—the marriage of samba and choro popularized during the 1950s through the 1970s in Brazil—featuring special guest vocalist Katia Moraes. Choro is a rarely heard form of instrumental Brazilian music dating back to the late 1800s. Falso Baiano incorporates flamenco, jazz, and other genres to express their take on the music that gave birth to the samba.
