Diedrich Diederichsen
Twenty years ago, Diedrich Diederichsen came to stay and teach in Los Angeles for the first time. Introduced to the city by Mike Kelley, among others, Diederichsen experienced a connection between local sub- and microcultures and art institutions that was different from what he had known in Europe and the East Coast of the United States, where more pessimistic and cynical attitudes prevailed. What is left of this impression today, in Los Angeles and beyond, in times of cuts and privatizations—and after Mike Kelley?
Diedrich Diederichsen is a writer and former editor-in-chief of the influential subculture magazine Spex as well as visiting critic at Otis College of Art and Design.
