College Night 2013
LACMA hosts an evening just for college students: explore the exhibition Stanley Kubrick and LACMA's collection of modern art. Participate in a gallery discussion, create art, and enjoy a free reception in honor of college students—after public hours, and free of charge.
Art Making – Jupiter Window
Workshop and demonstration by visual artist Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca. Create cosmic landscapes with your own camera using techniques developed by Kubrick to make the Star Gate sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Music from the film by Gyorgy Ligeti, and electronic music by Detroit Techno producer Jeff Mills, inspired by the film, provide a sonic background to this workshop.
Tabletop Moviemaking
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) to this moviemaking workshop that takes place on a miniature scale led by Brick Maier. Use the Tabletop Moviemaking studio, complete with LED lights, color gels and simple optics, to build sets, create characters and shoot video with your mobile device. Get inspired by Kubrick's passion for lenses, meticulous staging, and use of lighting to create a mini masterpiece in minutes.
