Conversation with Designer Bernard Kester
Meet designer Bernard Kester and preview his new work, Strand Scarf, 2011, created on the occasion of the exhibition California Design, 1930–1965: "Living in a Modern Way". Bernard and Costume and Textiles Curator Kaye Spilker will talk about the design world of Los Angeles in the 1950s and 60s, and its influences and icons. Kester, venerated professor, ceramicist, and textile designer, taught at UCLA for thirty-seven years, serving for several years as Dean of the School of Art. He is also legendary at LACMA; his exhibition designs have been part of the presentation of artworks here at the museum for forty-five years. Spilker is also a LACMA veteran, whose most recent exhibition was Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700–1915.
